Giving Back
Over the past two years, and with your help, Bloktoberfest has been able to have a lasting impact on the South of South Neighborhood and Philadelphia as a whole. For 2011, we’re continuing this tradition of service by committing our beer proceeds to a variety of important education initiatives tied to the area’s schools and students. Beneficiaries will include Mighty Writers, Chester A Arthur Elementary School (through FoCA) and Stanton Elementary School (through Bainbridge House).
During its previous two years, Bloktoberfest was able to raise $10,000 towards vital architectural preservation work for the Shiloh Baptist Church at 2040 Christian Street, a neighborhood landmark designed by Frank Furness in 1868 and listed in the Philadelphia Register of Historic Places. We’re delighted to once again include Shiloh Baptist on our list of beneficiaries as well.
We’re proud to run an event that both celebrates and gives back to the community. We think you’ll agree that it makes the beer taste even better.
Family-Friendly
Bring the kids! Bloktoberfest 2011 will feature expanded activities for young children and families on the 1600 block of South Street as part of a clearly defined Family Zone. We’ll have face painters, balloon artists, and other all-ages entertainment planned throughout the afternoon.
Volunteers
We have always relied on the energy and generosity of an amazing volunteer corps to make Bloktoberfest the best block party in Philly, and this time around will be no exception. If you’re interested in lending a hand (and receiving some free beer in return!), click here to learn more. UPDATE: We’ve hit our volunteer limit! Thanks so much to those of you who have already submitted your forms. We’ll be contacting you shortly with your assignments.
