See You On South Street!

Bloktoberfest is here!  Before you head out the door and come on down, here’s a few quick tips and reminders to make sure you have the absolute best festival experience possible:

  • WILL-CALL for advance beer bracelets is located in the Main Ticketing area on the 1400 block, directly across from the Jamaican Jerk Hut. We’ve also added a second, smaller will-call area in Secondary Ticketing on the 1700 block, but please realize that lines there may move slower (see map).
  • Beer bracelets and extra beer tickets can be purchased in Main Ticketing on the 1400 block with either CASH or CREDIT CARD (see map).
  • Beer bracelets and extra beer tickets can be purchased at Secondary Ticketing on the 1700 block with CREDIT CARD ONLY (see map).
  • It’s gonna be warm during the day - perhaps up to 70 degrees - but cool down in the evening, so dress appropriately. Layers, people!
  • You can find full schedules for music and kids activities here on our website, as well as printed on the festival maps available at the event.
  • Know your limits, mind your manners, and be nice to your fellow Bloktoberfesters. We love people who drink responsibly, and encourage you to find safe ways home (like a discounted ride from Uber) at the end of the night if necessary.
  • Keep a look out for Uwishunu and Visit Philly, who will be on the 1500 block handing out free mini-Instagram prints to those who Instagram and tag their photos with the hashtags #Bloktoberfest and #GraduateHospital.
  • That helpful person selling you your bracelet, pouring your beer, or pointing you towards the porta-potties is a volunteer. We’ve got about 150 of ‘em, and they’re all completely awesome. Please treat them to the respect and appreciation they deserve for helping to make this whole day possible.
  • If there’s important breaking news from our end, we’ll break it on twitter, so be sure to follow @Bloktoberfest and check out our feed throughout the event.

…and that about does it!  Thanks so much to everybody planning to join our wonderful little block party today, and have a great time.  We can’t wait to see you out on South Street!

Be Uber Responsible: Don’t Drink & Drive

We want you to drink beer at Bloktoberfest. Lots of it. But we also want you to be safe. So why not let Uber be your designated driver to and from festival this Saturday? Not only have they lowered their rates across the board in Philly, but they’re offering new users an extra special Bloktoberfest discount!

Sign up using the promo code “BLOK2013 and get $20 off your first ride! That’s $20 you can spend on more beer, yo! There’s arguably no cooler, swankier, or more awesomely responsible way to bookend your day on South Street than this.

Here’s The Beers

How will you whet your whistle at this year’s Bloktoberfest? You could get real familiar with Colorado’s Boulder Beer, who will have seven different styles on tap in their pavillion on the 1500 block. Maybe you’re gonna go all pumpkin, all day? Or keep it local with our fantastic line-up of PA beers from Round Guys, Old Forge, and Neshaminy Creek? It’s all academic, really; there are no wrong choices here.

Of course, to drink any of this stuff, you’ll need to buy a beer bracelet, which is five bucks cheaper if you buy it online. Just sayin’…

Blok Steady Ale

Our very own beer, brewed in collaboration with Round Guys, exclusively available for the first time ever at Bloktoberfest 2013. A classic Oktoberfest style with a twist! Super sessionable. Awesomely autumnal. Get yours, then get another. And another.

Early Bird Beers

New this year, we’re tapping a special selection of hard-to-find and high-gravity options at noon sharp across all four blocks of the festival. We’ve marked these premium brews with an *E* in the list below. These Early Bird Beers are first-come, first-served, and available in VERY limited quantities, so consider yourself warned. Show up late and you’ll only get to hear about ‘em.

The Pumpkin Express

In order to better sate Philly’s calabaza-crazed masses, we’re expanding this year’s pumpkin beer station into a full-fledged Pumpkin Beer Express Zone. Located right in the heart of the festival at the intersection of 16th and South Streets, this station’s lines will be pouring nothing but pumpkin beer ’round the clock. Bring your nutmeg needs and fall spice fixations here, and have them all gloriously quenched.

Update Avalanche!

We’ve got soooo much good news to share about Bloktoberfest 2013, so let’s get to it…

The wait is over. Go forth and purchase your very own key to liquid autumnal happiness! Buying your beer bracelet online means you’ll pay less and enjoy faster check-in on festival day. Hear that, all you fast and cheap types? We get you. Visit our Beer page now to purchase your bracelet, and remember, you can feel good about your beer money going right back into the community.

How do you celebrate 5 years of blok-rocking awesomeness? You brew your very own, official, one-of-a-kind, exclusive, and particularly delicious festival beer! Yes, October 19th will be your first chance to taste Blok Steady Ale. We’ve spent our summer working closely with the fine brew dudes of Round Guys Brewing to create a new twist on the classic Oktoberfest style that’s ideal session material for a beautiful day and night out on the street.

Ready for a South Street Smorgasbord! The number of incredible dining options we’re able to feature along the South Street West corridor continues to expand every year, and we’re complimenting their offerings with our biggest assortment of food trucks yet! For a continually updated list of all the blok bites, be sure to check out our Food page.

We’ve got another stellar selection of musical acts for 2013, spread out across two stages and completely free for all to enjoy. Indie rockers Clap Your Hands Say Yeah will be headlining the Jerk Hut Stage, topping off perhaps the most eclectic line-up we’ve ever assembled. The undercard includes dark dance pop from The Belle Game (a Vancouver act making their Philly debut!), the deep dish funk of Swift Technique, Feist-y local chanteuse Vinchelle Woods, and jazz tones from the Clef Club’s Youth Ensemble. The afterparty cooks with Carnaval rhythms courtesy of Alo Brasil, then chills with smooth grooves from Elegant Animals. The 16th Street Stage brings more local talent to the heart of the festival, with sets from Tall Trees, New Pony, Countdown to Ecstasy, Andrew Lipke and the Azrael String Quartet, plus certified dance-party instigators DJs No Phrillz and Benja Styles. Set times are now available on our Music page so you can start planning out your sonic itinerary.

Once again, we’ll have a special section of the 1700 block dedicated to our youngest festival friends. Face painting, balloon artists, and a stage programmed with 100% tot-centric entertainment, all totally free for families to enjoy all day long. Stay tuned to the Kids page for details.

Whew… Yeah, lots going on here at Bloktobefest HQ. And frankly, this ain’t even the half of it. Keep checking back here, and be sure to follow us on facebook, twitter, and instagram for the latest and greatest!
